WELCOME TO OUR DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL TO IMPROVE THE SAINSBURY'S STORE IN NINE ELMS.
Sainsbury’s has had a store on this site for almost thirty years. Since it was first built, we’ve extended the store twice and it is one of our most popular stores in South London.
This site has been identified by both Lambeth Council and the Greater London Authority as somewhere that is suitable for “intensification”. This has been crucial in our thinking and has influenced our thoughts behind the plans.
Our store also sits at the entrance to the Vauxhall, Nine Elms and Battersea Opportunity Area. This part of London has been identified for one of the biggest regeneration schemes in the country, with the potential for thousands of new homes, many more businesses and our store, although in Lambeth, is part of the area. Our proposals will help bring the ambitious plans one step closer. However, we also see this development as being able to stand apart from the wider regeneration proposals and we have been in close discussion with the neighbouring landowners to ensure that our ideas are compatible with theirs. We will be able to bring forward our final proposals early next year.
We want to give you a better shopping experience by increasing the range of products available as well as building space for other shops and businesses. The new development will have parking on the ground floor and in a newly created basement and will also provide residential properties above the store.
The store currently sits on a small part of a very large site, which is mostly taken up by the car park, in a typical “out of town” layout style.
